Arroyo Seco – 2019

Spending a week in the hills of Valdez, New Mexico, at the Taos Artist Casita was a treat — a great hub for visiting the scenic byways around Taos and close to great hikes high in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

The Casita is located just north of Arroyo Seco, in the Arroyo Hondo. The road is steep and full of ruts, and you know we like it that way. The best part of the drive is the Rim Road that drops down the steep valley nestled in the shadows of Lucero Peak.

At 7,634 feet above sea level, Arroyo Seco is a funky place, an enclave of farm-to-table folk, new age holdouts, REI-clad adventurers, and rancheros — lots of ponies and livestock. Halfway between Taos and the Taos Ski Valley, its a quiet and perfect place to stay in Northern New Mexico.
