Stations of the Cross in San Luis

For a moment I thought my eyes were playing tricks, I had no recollection of a Hispanic Church crested on the bluff overlooking Colorado’s oldest town, San Luis.  This was clearly a landmark not to be forgotten. I parked the car and up the bluff, we climbed.

The Church is actually the Shrine of the Stations of the Cross, which was completed in the 1990s. Not an actual historic site, but worth the hike. Hubert Maestas’s sculptures graphically depict the last hours of the Christ story, namely the events of the crucifixion. Passing through San Luis? Climb the hill and check it out.
